Shared Insourced Reporting Programme
The NHS has a a shortage of radiology specialists. This has led to the widespread use of private, outsourced reporting services to interpret scans. However, it is often NHS radiologists who carry out this service, with the outsourcing company taking a fee, which increases the overall cost.
Our peninsula Shared Insourced Reporting Programme (SIRP) works by connecting trusts directly with radiologists who are willing to take on additional work. This reduces the need for private outsourcing.
SIRP provides a more equitable arrangement, allowing radiologists to earn a fair rate, while helping to address the backlog of radiology reports. This not only benefits the peninsula's trusts, but also improves patient care by ensuring timely access to diagnostic imaging results.
At the moment, our SIRP scheme is open for radiologists who would like to take part; in future we hope to extend this to reporting radiographers.
If you are interested in joining SIRP, or would like to find out more about how it works, please email the SIRP team in the first instance.
